Robert Johnson and Sarah Halcott's Amused Studios
Sarah and Robbie created their home based pottery studio in 2006. Sarah likes making colorful functional work with with influences from nature. She likes to grow crystals on the surfaces of some pieces, and they have a series of mugs which incorporate colors that you might see while your enjoying a day at the beach. Sarah makes the glazes that give the pieces their colors and has found a recipe for every color in the rainbow. Robbie likes to channel his inner archeologist creating bottles that could have been used by ancient ancestors. He burnishes many pots with a mica infusion to add subtle sparkle to the surface. He then chooses low firing techniques like acid wash saggar to create red mottled surfaces and horse hair and feather raku for a dramatic black and white. They primarily make mugs, bowls, platters, piggy banks, bottles and art that nourishes their artistic souls.
What is Amused Studios?
Amused Studios is the working name of our business and studio space. We chose the name to reflect the joy we get making, teaching and showing our art works. We also didn't want to limit ourselves to producing just ceramic art, since we both have background in multiple mediums. Including drawing, painting, sculpture, lampworking, woodworking, digital art, video and music.
